Bringing Racing to the Upper Bay

Drop Buoy Race Procedures

Drop Buoy Races Days, when scheduled, shall take on a slight different format than typical “round the buoy racing”. The intent of these races is to add more racecourse options, more windward/leeward and use shorter courses to allow multiple races in a single date. All racing procedures shall be the same except for the following

Finish Line

Using the ORANGE Buoy and the YELLOW Flag on the Committee Boat.

Race Course

The racecourse shall be determined and announced 20 minutes prior to the warning for the first class start. The racecourse will make use of drop buoys. The Committee Boat shall announce the windward/leeward position of the racecourse, by including compass bearing and approximate distance to the windward MARK. The Longitude and Latitude position will NOT be announced. The Committee Boat shall also confirm the Start time of each class.

Committee Boats that RACE

Due to the short nature of these courses, Committee Boats will NOT be allowed to race in the shorter “around the buoy” races. Dedicated Committee Boats will be used for these races.
