SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

NOTICE OF RACE As posted on the GRF web site and in the Green Book.
RULES

The race will be conducted under the US Sailing, Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 – 2012, except as noted for the starting sequence listed in the Notice of Race.

Changes to the Sailing Instructions will be announced from the CB one half hour prior to the first warning.
STARTING LINE

The start will be between a yellow flag on the CB and the pin, using either an orange inflatable or the government mark

C “1A” (Region 1 mark “G”).  A white stand-off mark may be used for the CB.  Although not a mark of the course, it must be honored at the start as an extension of the CB.
STARTING SEQUENCE As listed on the Notice of Race in the Green Book and the GRF web site.
COURSE

The course will utilize government marks as listed in the Green Book for Region 1 and be posted on the CB.  If a drop buoy is used as part of the course (designated mark “TT”), its lat/long position will be announced on Channel 68.  Channel 72 will be used as a back up channel.

Mark Boats will fly a yellow flag indicating they are official support boats for this event.
RECALL As described in the Rules of Sailing.
FINISH Between a yellow flag on the CB and an orange buoy, set perpendicular to the last posted mark of the course.
ABANDONMENT The race will be sailed with a time limit of 1600 for the first boat to finish from the first class – and subsequent five-minute intervals for each remaining class.  If a boat abandons the race, it must immediately notify the RC to insure the safety of their crew is accounted for and avoid an extended search.
RENDERING At the discretion of the RC, an elapsed time credit will be given to a yacht rendering assistance to, or standing by, a yacht in distress.  To receive such credit, the captain of the yacht rendering assistance must submit to the RC immediately upon arrival detailed information in writing of the time spent and extra distance traveled, if any.
PROTESTS Intent to protest may be hailed to RC at finish.  The form must be delivered to RC at Turners Creek prior to 1800 hours with a fee of $100 for the opportunity to protest.  This fee will be donated directly to The Sultana Project education program.  Protest hearing will be at a location beginning at 1800 hours as designated in the Sailing Instructions or upon request for a hearing.  This modifies Part 5 of the RRS.
AWARDS Awarded at post race party.  1st/3, 2nd/5, 3rd/7 or more entrants.
SOCIAL

A limited supply of T-shirts will be available this year at the dinner. To insure you get a Bay Jam shirt, please complete the entry form with T-shirt, dinner and registration information and forward prior to the 12 August date. Cost of the T-shirts is $12.

A post-race party will begin at 1730 hours with launch service provided until 1800 hours to the dock at Turners Creek.  Boats are requested to anchor outside the creek or on a GRF mooring (first three after passing the last green mark in the creek) and may hail a launch on channel 68.  If stormy, best to limit each mooring to four boats or less.  Return transportation will be provided until 2200 hours, beginning at 2100.  Limited space may be available at the dock.  A buffet dinner will be served with beer, soda, water and tea at the cost of $20/person.    Children under 16 are $12.50 each - under 12 – free.
