The 2005 Echo Hill Bay Jam
will take place on
Saturday, 20 August,
followed by the wonderful party at the Jensens
This is a big event for the GRF, as it is the first Sanctioned Race that GRF has organized for many years - perhaps ever. It is also a charitable event, and through the race, we will be raising money for Echo Hill Alumni Fund.
At this time, we are still finalizing the arrangements, but we plan to have three levels of contributions to Echo Hill
- firstly, through the entry fees per boat
- secondly, you will be able to sponsor a "virtual boat" in the fleet
- finally, you can make a contribution to the program.
The Committee is also actively looking for Sponsors for the event, so if you have ideas, please contact Tom Stoner (610) 873-1472 or by email
A summary of the race details are included in the CBYRA Green Book, and are available here. Click here for a copy

What is a Sanctioned Race?
Racing on the Chesapeake Bay is coordinated and managed by CBYRA. To avoid conflicts between the many clubs, CBYRA sets up a calendar of Sanctioned or approved races, which in turn are included in the High Point Series results. Sanctioned races are included in the CBYRA Green Book, and are open to any sailor from the Bay area.
With the Bay Jam being a sanctioned race, there are a comprehensive set of requirements that GRF will have to follow. Your Club Officers are working hard to pull all these plans together.
Who is Echo Hill?
Founded on Maryland’s Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay in 1972, Echo Hill Outdoor School is a private non-profit educational organization. Each year Echo Hill offers residential and day programs on a weekly basis to thousands of students from five states and the District of Columbia.
Echo Hill's outdoor classes and residential programs are grounded in our desire to have students live and learn closely with nature. From sensory exploration classes, to canvas platform tents, from the outdoor dining hall, to the dorms surrounded by forest, the philosophy of immersion is present. Our small, hands-on classes provide opportunities for all students to become engaged and participate. Interactions between staff and students in the tent areas, during meals, and in class groups focus on fun, creativity, respect, awareness, understanding, and learning. As teachers and naturalists, we believe that students learn best when they are curious and interested.
